{"id":114,"date":"2023-05-27T22:38:01","date_gmt":"2023-05-27T22:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mafreeman.net\/freeman_blog\/?p=114"},"modified":"2023-05-27T22:38:01","modified_gmt":"2023-05-27T22:38:01","slug":"faithfulness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mafreeman.net\/freeman_blog\/faithfulness\/","title":{"rendered":"Faithfulness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">I was in a place of Peace and Dreams\nI was on a cliff; my Stepfather was there,\nBehind me was a rolling hill and nothing more\nIt looked  to have been cut out of the earth like a piece of pie.\nI moved to the edge to look down and regretted it.\n\n\u201cIt\u2019s a long way down.\u201d I said.\nSmiling, he took another drag from his Pall Mall.\n\u201cYeah,but  I think they missed the memo.\u201d\n\u201cWhat memo is that?\u201d\nFlicking his butt, he rocked side to side and winked.\n\u201c\u2026where we get to sing.\u201d\n\nHe hummed Amazing Grace\nLike pebbles in a can, rough but clear.\n\u201cI guess that settles that.\u201d He said\nThen jumped in the void like it was his.\nStanding stunned, missing the anticipated,\nI could hear him singing, fading away.\n\n\u201cHow sweet the sound\u2026\u201d Fainter.\nHe only knew the first verse.\nI stood hopelessly frozen.\nI could not jump; worse, I was looking\nStaring into the void, trying to see something\nFamiliar and warm; for darkness is cold.\n\nI see nothing; hear nothing, yet want nothing\nI\u2019m here about to jump.\nFor No reason except to hear the singing a bit longer,\nI move even closer to the edge,\nBut I fail to commit standing.\nI feel hollow and lost; abandoned.\nI mumble to insure myself I can speak.\n\nI think of the Man who went before me\nHow he was the only Father I knew for years,\nHow he disappointed, and fulfilled.\nI remember him hugging me with \u201cIt\u2019s all right\u2026\u201d\nI remember the look of playfulness\nIn the Hospital before he passed.\n\nI awoke with \u201cGreat is thy faithfulness\u2026\u201d in my head\nAnd thought of Sailors and Ships at Sea\nI wondered if the precipice in Space\nWas because of my fear of heights\nOr just Death trying to give me a whisper\n\u201cIt is not time yet\u2026\u201d\nNot too bad to be singing though.<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was in a place of Peace and Dreams I was on a cliff; my Stepfather was there, Behind me was a rolling hill and nothing more It looked to have been cut out of the earth like a piece of pie.
